SMI Automation was founded to meet the needs in class 8 truck manufacturing for automated adhesive assembly systems for large SMC, fiberglass and composite assemblies. These include robotic machining cells to provide clearance openings and attachment points, automated drilling, clip installation and a wide range of other automated processes. Since the company’s inception in 2015, it has grown to serve customers with automated systems in other markets, such as automotive and electric vehicle production.

Our in-house designed, turn-key solutions have allowed SMI to acquire a reputation as a preeminent supplier in these markets, known for our outstanding design, construction and on-time delivery of our systems into the customer’s plant ready for production.

SMI continues to engineer solutions for new challenges, developing and implementing new technologies that reduce waste, noise and energy costs while still providing a robust, reliable process.

SMI Automation has extensive knowledge in fabrication and welding. Our steel fabrication processes and 100s of years of combined experience within our team, allows SMI to tackle the most challenging, tight tolerance, large and complex weldments. With indoor lifting capacity of 40 tons and with several cranes throughout our plant, large and heavy weldments are within our capability.

Our team strives to keep your project on budget and on time, and our great customer service and communication ensures that our customers are up to date with the status and delivery of their products. All of our equipment is certified and able to provide 24 hours per day, 7 days per week output to meet our customer’s tight timelines.

Our welding capabilities include MIG, TIG, SUB ARC and Electro Slag welding. We also have a long-term collaboration with a licensed and certified UT/LPI/MPI inspection team to ensure the quality and certification of our welds.

SMI Automation has several vertical CNC machining centers as well 5 horizontal boring mills ranging from medium size to a large 4 meter, newly installed boring mill. The skills of our dedicated machinists ensure that the products that are produced meet or exceed our customer’s expectations.

Working from either 3D CAD models or a 2D drawing, our team has the capability to produce products that our customers need, on time and on budget.

SMI Automation is the proud holder of ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001 certifications. Our dedicated quality personnel ensure that our automated systems are producing quality parts, and our fabrications are meeting customer dimensional requirements using our Roamer Arm which is capable of producing CMM reports or full surface laser scanning.

Additionally, we implement laser tracking systems and a large variety of precision measuring devices to ensure our products meet our customer’s dimensional requirements. Raw material certifications are retained as required as permanent records for our customers and are supplied along with the dimensional measurement data and weld test inspection reports during our final submission once the project has been completed.

Our team is capable of inspecting welds using MP non-destructive testing, as well as managing 3rd party UT inspectors guaranteeing our products will meet any difficult weld standards.

SMI Automation’s dedicated, customer focused Program Managers are trained and experienced to ensure that our projects are progressing on schedule and on budget. They are the leaders of a diverse cross-functional team and report daily to the company executives.

Our program managers are the “voice of the customer” in our facility and are armed with the latest software to track and report progress and timelines. They are supported internally by an ERP system that ensures timely, accurate information on project purchases, delivery, in-house product status and cross-functional team communication.
